Rachel Anne McAdams was born on 17
November 1978, in London, Ontario, Canada Rachel Anne McAdams was the daughter
of Sandra Kay (Gale), a nurse and Lance Frederick McAdams who is truck driver
and furniture mover. Rachel is English, Welsh and Irish-born. Rachel started
acting at thirteen. She was already appearing in Shakespearean plays during
summer theatre camp. Rachel graduated with honors from York University with a
BFA in Theater. After her debut on television on Disney's The Famous Jett
Jackson in 1998, Rachel starred in Canadian TV's Slings and Arrows 2003. The
comedy-drama follows the struggles of Shakespearean theater groups. Rachel was
awarded an Gemini Award for her performance in 2003. Her breakout role in Mean
Girls (2004) as Regina George instantly landed her on the Hollywood's top list
of promising young actors. After that she was cast alongside Ryan Gosling as
the romantic drama adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' bestseller The Notebook
(2004). The Notebook was a hugely successful film at the box-office and became
the most popular romantic drama for the young crowd. McAdams and Gosling began
to fall in love while filming and continued to be together until the middle of
2007. McAdams continued to show her versatility on the screen with the comedy Wedding
Crashers (2005), the action thriller Red Eye (2005), and the Christmas drama
The Family Stone (2005).McAdams then went on to explore the world of
independent film through Married Life (2007), which debuted at Toronto Film
Festival and also featured Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper and Patricia Clarkson.
Her roles as a star in the military drama The Lucky Ones (2007) and the
thriller about newspapers State of Play (2009) as well as the romantic drama
The Time Traveler's Wife (2009) followed before she starred alongside Robert
Downey Jr. and Jude Law in Guy Ritchie's international blockbuster Sherlock
Holmes (2009). McAdams was the shrewd producer of a failed morning TV show in
Morning Glory (2010), the materialistic fiancee of Owen Wilson in Woody Allen's
Midnight in Paris (2011) and then returned to the romantic drama genre with the
cult film The Vow (2012) opposite Channing Tatum. McAdams also stars alongside
Terrence Malick in To the Wonder (2012), and Noomi Rapace plays Passion (2012)
in Brian De Palma's film thriller.
