Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France, to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson both lawyers. When she was five years older, she moved to Oxfordshire where she went to Dragon School. Emma knew she wanted to perform since when she was six years old. She was trained for a number of years in the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. This part-time theatre school taught her singing, dancing and acting. She was a stagecoach performer and had taken the lead in several Stagecoach productions. In 1999 casting started for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) The movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents stumbled upon Emma through her Oxford theatre teacher. After eight auditions consistently director David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been selected to play the three leads: Hermione Granger, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's film debut. The film broke records in opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and was the most-grossing film of 2001. The film's performance and that of its three stars were highly praised by the critics. The Daily Telegraph, a British newspaper widely distributed, called Emma's performance "admirable." In the following days, Emma was nominated for five awards for her role in the film. She also won the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the Feature Film. Emma was one of the most well-known actors following the success of the film. She continued to portray the character of Hermione Granger for over 10 years in all the following Harry Potter films: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011). Emma was awarded two Critics Choice Award nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association for her work in Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban and Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.
